On Monday, May 5, 2008, the New Lisbon Police Department was notified of a black bear in the City of New Lisbon. The bear remained in the City for several days and the Department of Natural Resources set up two culvert traps in the City in an attempt to catch and relocate the bear. On Friday, May 9th, the bear was found to be in the culvert trap that was placed in the 500-block of State Street in the City of New Lisbon. The bear is estimated to be a male, 225-pounds. The bear is being relocated to the Black River Falls/Millston area. The New Lisbon Police Department reminds residents that bears are still wild animals, even if they appear harmless. If anyone sees a bear, please notify law enforcement immediately.
