There's been a lot of talk about deck truss bridges lately, for obvious reasons. In the state of Wisconsin is 16 bridges that were built this way. One is west of Sparta, but the only one that is really close to our area is the Hwy 82 bridge over the Wisconsin River. Here are a couple slides that my dad took of the Hwy 82 bridge when it was still under construction in the 1950's:

  1. Amazing!Look at all the water in the river. You go over that bridge now it is like a creek.Although 20 years ago when we graduated the river was quite plentyfull.

  2. Yep, sure doesn't seem like as much water nowadays as there used to be. Although, (hard to tell from the slides as they have turned red with age) by the looks of the trees with no leaves on them, it could be early Spring. More water from the melted snow etc. I'm pretty sure the slides had the date on them. Maybe sometime I'll dig them out and look.

  3. Still cool to look back and see how things used to be.I don't have any pictures back when my parents were young.I think Janis has the pictures when we were young but not too much when my parents were young.
